The 45-year-old man was sentenced in an Australian court after pleading guilty to trafficking in children and causing a person under 18 to remain in forced labour.

Sidhu pleaded guilty on March 26 to one count of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise.

Police allege the material, dating back to 2014, was shared with friends and family members through an encrypted social media platform.

The victim, a Sri Lankan national employed as an office manager, was repeatedly pressured to make payments while trying to build her future in New Zealand and progress her residence application.

“Removing the bottleneck at the level crossing and duplicating the entire eight-kilometre stretch is part of the coaliation plan to deliver infrastructure to the very communities that have been starved of it.”

Jaspreet Singh was sentenced in the Auckland District Court to five months’ home detention and ordered to pay $10,000 in emotional harm reparation after being found guilty on four counts of indecent assault following a retrial.

The man had previously pleaded guilty to attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, dealing with more than $100,000 believed to be the proceeds of crime, trafficking a large commercial quantity of ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine and MDMA, and trafficking MDMA.

Fiji's ministry had been working closely with Australian authorities and employers to address cases of concern, with more than 200 workers successfully re-engaged after assessments of their circumstances.
