“Utterly depraved”: Alleged mock execution of Indian Prime Minister Modi triggers outrage

A deeply provocative video filmed outside the Indian Consulate in Birmingham has sparked outrage after depicting an ISIS-style mock execution scene involving a man wearing a mask of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The footage, reportedly shot outside Ramgee House, home to the Consulate General of India in Birmingham, shows a man dressed in a bright orange jumpsuit and wearing a Modi mask being aggressively manhandled by three masked men dressed in black balaclavas and tactical-style clothing.

In the video, the men force the “Modi” figure to kneel while waving placards bearing slogans including “Kashmir will be liberated!” and “Modi’s foreign policy: Made in Tel Aviv.”

Presented as a mock “Live Breaking News” broadcast, the video was released by a group identifying itself as “Deenified”. A spokesperson in the footage allegedly claims the group has “arrested Narendra Modi”, labels the Indian leader “genocidal”, and urges supporters to “join the movement”.

The speaker also allegedly declares: “One day we will have Modi in handcuffs like this,” framing the staged detention as symbolic political theatre.

The imagery has triggered fierce criticism due to its strong resemblance to propaganda videos produced by the terrorist group ISIS. The orange jumpsuit, masked captors dressed in black and forced kneeling pose closely mirror the visual style associated with ISIS execution videos.

Conservative MP Bob Blackman has called for an immediate police investigation, describing the footage as part of a broader pattern of intimidation targeting British Hindus.

“An ISIS-style execution scene, staged on British streets, featuring a mask of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a radical Islamist movement that feels increasingly emboldened to intimidate, threaten and incite violence against the Hindu community and its leaders,” Blackman said.

The MP alleged similar incidents had occurred during Holi celebrations in Harrow and after unrest in Wembley, where Hindu and Sikh-owned businesses were reportedly targeted.

“These are terrorist actions connected by a common thread of Islamist extremism that the Government has consistently failed to confront.”

As chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for British Hindus, Blackman said police and prosecutors should examine whether criminal charges relating to incitement or public order offences could be pursued.

“Staging a mock execution of a world leader on British streets is incitement.”

Advocacy group Insight UK also condemned the footage, describing it as “deeply disturbing and extremist in tone”.

The organisation said.

“A British Islamist’s mock trial of India’s PM Narendra Modi, with him in an orange jumpsuit and others dressed in ISIS-style black, has sparked shock and outrage.”

The group warned the imagery appeared to glorify punitive violence against India’s democratically elected prime minister and raised concerns about “vigilantism, intimidation, and the normalisation of extremist symbolism against non-Muslim individuals and communities”.

“If this is linked to the UK-based group ‘Deen’, it raises serious concerns about extremist symbolism and intimidation tactics,” the statement added.

The footage has since gone viral online, fuelling calls for British authorities to investigate whether any laws relating to hate speech, incitement or extremist activity may have been breached.
