BEC scams, a sophisticated form of fraud, involve cybercriminals manipulating financial transactions by either hacking into or creating nearly identical email addresses to intercept large sums of money.
The email and password details harvested could be used to access more personal information, including a victim’s online communications, stored images and videos or bank details.

The crash killed 42-year-old mother Nancy Lefrançois and her 11-year-old son Loïc Chevalier, who were travelling in a passenger vehicle struck in the collision.
