A Nepali-origin childcare worker accused of assaulting young children at a Sydney centre has been hit with additional charges, as police allege more victims have come forward.
Jayendra Jung Shahi, 24, was first arrested in April after two boys, aged three and four, were allegedly slapped at a childcare centre in Panania in Sydney’s south-west.
Now following further investigations, NSW Police allege two more children — both girls aged three and four — were assaulted in a separate incident.
Detectives re-arrested Shahi at a home in Belmore on Monday before taking him to Campsie Police Station, where he was charged with an additional two counts of common assault.

As per reports, the case centres on incidents at Panania Montessori Academy, where Shahi had been employed.
The childcare provider confirmed to 7News that Shahi’s employment was terminated after the initial allegations emerged: “We have since terminated the educator’s employment.”
“We take any concerns of this nature extremely seriously, and the safety, health and wellbeing of children is always our highest priority,” the centre said in a statement to 7News.
“As soon as we became aware of the allegation, immediate action was taken including standing down the educator and reporting the matter to the police and regulatory authority.”
Police began investigating on April 24 after receiving reports that the two boys had been assaulted the previous day. Shahi was first arrested on April 26.
Authorities have not indicated whether further charges may follow, as investigations continue into the alleged incidents involving the children.
