Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has arrived in Fiji for an official visit, reaffirming Australia’s commitment to its growing Vuvale Partnership with the Pacific nation and emphasising the importance of regional cooperation.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Albanese said closer collaboration with Pacific neighbours would strengthen both economic resilience and regional security.
Prime Minister Albanese said:
“When we work with our neighbours, we achieve more. Together, we can make our economies stronger and our region safer. And that’s why I’ve come to Fiji today.”
Albanese was welcomed at Nausori Airport by Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka and Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Sakiasi Ditoka. He was accorded a 50-member Guard of Honour by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
Joining the Prime Minister on the visit is Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
During his official programme, Albanese is expected to participate in a traditional Fijian welcome ceremony, hold bilateral talks with Fijian leaders, and pay a courtesy call on the President of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
The visit underscores the continued strengthening of the Fiji–Australia Vuvale Partnership, which is founded on mutual respect, close cooperation and shared priorities across the Pacific region.
Australia and Fiji have expanded cooperation in recent years across defence, climate resilience, economic development, labour mobility and regional security, with both governments describing the Vuvale Partnership as a cornerstone of their relationship.
