One of Melbourne’s most popular tourist attractions and event venues, SkyHigh Mt Dandenong, has closed indefinitely after entering liquidation, leaving employees, wedding couples and other customers facing uncertainty.
Located about 44 kilometres east of Melbourne in the Dandenong Ranges, the iconic venue has long been a favourite destination for visitors, weddings, corporate functions and dining with panoramic views of the city.
The Federal Court of Australia appointed Adrian Roca of SMB Advisory as liquidator of SkyHigh Mt Dandenong Pty Ltd on 21 July 2026, with trading suspended shortly afterwards. The venue publicly announced its closure on 26 July.
Mr Roca said his office is working closely with Parks Victoria and other stakeholders to secure the approvals needed to reopen the venue while an orderly sale process is undertaken.
“The liquidator’s office has been working urgently with Parks Victoria and other key stakeholders to finalise approvals and operating arrangements necessary to facilitate the reopening of the venue while an orderly sale process for the business and its assets is undertaken,” he said.
He said the proposed arrangement aims to preserve the business as a going concern while maximising outcomes for creditors, employees, customers and other stakeholders.
The sudden closure has affected customers with upcoming weddings, functions and restaurant bookings, while several employees have reportedly been stood down amid uncertainty over their future.
Mr Roca acknowledged the disruption caused by the shutdown.
“We appreciate that this has been a difficult and uncertain time, particularly for customers with upcoming functions and events and for employees alike. Our immediate focus is on preserving the business and working towards reopening the venue as soon as possible,” he said.
Customers with bookings during the initial closure period have been advised to contact the liquidator’s office to discuss alternative arrangements. Future bookings remain dependent on the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
A Parks Victoria spokesperson confirmed the agency was informed of the court-ordered liquidation and is working with the liquidator on the site’s future.
“As the liquidation takes place, we will look at options for a sustainable future that ensures SkyHigh remains a key visitor attraction for the Dandenongs,” the spokesperson said.
SkyHigh operates on Crown land under a lease with Parks Victoria. The venue has occupied the site since 2004 and earlier this year announced a renewed lease with plans for renovations and improvements.
According to records published by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation applied to wind up SkyHigh Mt Dandenong Pty Ltd in May 2026. The Federal Court subsequently ordered the company’s liquidation on 21 July.
Mr Roca said it is too early to comment on the company’s financial position or the reasons that led to the liquidation.
“Those matters are being investigated as part of the statutory liquidation process,” he said.
The liquidator said further updates will be provided to customers, creditors, employees and other stakeholders as more certainty becomes available regarding the venue’s reopening and sale process.
