The family of Melbourne mother Lavanya Achanta has launched a fundraiser to support her two young children following her tragic death in an alleged domestic violence incident in Melbourne’s east.
Lavanya’s cousin Govind, who created the fundraiser, said the funds would help provide care, stability and essential support for her children as they navigate life without their mother.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating loss of Lavanya Chappa, who was tragically murdered by her husband due to domestic violence on 7 July 2026 in Melbourne,” the fundraiser states.
Lavanya, 39, was remembered as a loving mother, cherished daughter, valued colleague and dear friend who touched the lives of many.
She worked as a Software Quality Analyst at Civica Asia Pacific, where she was respected for her professionalism, dedication and kindness.
“Above all, Lavanya was a devoted mother to her beloved children. They now face an unimaginable future without their mother’s comforting presence, guidance and unconditional love,” the family said.
The fundraiser has been established by Lavanya’s family and close friends to assist with the children’s immediate and long-term needs, including care, education and other essential support. A portion of the funds may also contribute towards funeral and memorial expenses.
“No amount of money can ever replace a mother’s love, but your generosity can help ease the financial burden and provide these children with stability, security and hope for the future.”
Lavanya’s death has also led to a murder charge against her husband, Srinivas Achanta, 39.
Police allege Mr Achanta fatally stabbed his wife inside their family home in Vermont, in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, on the night of 7 July.
Emergency services were called to the Delatite Court property about 10pm, where Ms Achanta was found deceased. Police said two children were located inside the home unharmed.
Mr Achanta was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital under police guard before being interviewed by homicide detectives. He was later charged with murder.
He appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was not required to enter a plea. He was remanded in custody and is due to return to court on 13 November.
Neighbours described the family as quiet and private, saying they had moved into the Vermont area with their children about two years ago.
Homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lavanya’s death.
