Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu says Pakistan creating fake American profiles to manipulate social media

on

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Pakistan of being behind coordinated online networks posing as Americans to influence social-media conversations about the Gaza war. The claim was made during a televised interview with CBS News.

Netanyahu said that social-media accounts posting anti-Israel content and appearing to be run by Americans were, in some cases, traced back to Pakistan. He suggested that organised bot networks were being used to amplify narratives and shape global opinion online during the conflict.

The remarks were made amid the wider information battle surrounding the Gaza war, as governments and researchers continue to warn about the growing role of coordinated online campaigns, automated accounts and disinformation in shaping public debate on social platforms.

This is not the first time that Pakistan has been accused of deceit or spreading disinformation. Last year officials from Pakistan’s armed forces were seen peddling fake information bordering on the bizarre during Operation Sindoor, a military campaign undertaken by India in May 2025 in which 9 terror sites and at least eight military air bases within Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir were hit by India in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025.

And who can ever forget that after Pakistan taking billions from the US as a so-called ally in the war on terror, the world’s most notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden, the man held responsible for 9/11 terror attacks, was found living next to a military cantonment in Abbottabad.
