Indian-origin teenage cricketer Ira Aery has made a strong impression in Australian junior cricket after starring for the Australia U19 women’s team in a tri-series against England and Sri Lanka in Brisbane.

Aery, who plays her junior cricket in Victoria’s Western Region Junior Cricket Association, finished the tournament as joint leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets at an average of 9, underlining her consistency across the series.

Her standout moment came against England, where she delivered a match-winning spell of 4/26 and contributed a crucial run-out, earning her the player of the match award.

She also played a key role in Australia’s tightly contested match against Sri Lanka, producing an impressive spell of 3/19, keeping the opposition’s scoring in check in a low-scoring encounter.

Sri Lanka U19 eventually won that match by three runs in a tense finish, successfully defending 99, with Australia bowled out for 96 despite a strong bowling performance that included Aery’s contributions.

The tri-series saw competitive performances across all three teams, with Sri Lanka ultimately completing a clean sweep of the tournament. However, Aery’s individual displays stood out as one of the major positives for the Australian side, particularly her ability to strike regularly and apply pressure in the middle overs.

Her rise through the junior ranks highlights Australia’s growing depth in women’s cricket, with selectors closely monitoring emerging talents as the pathway to higher honours continues to strengthen.
