Indian-origin “moustachioed” mystery bus driver revealed behind ABC journalist’s “small act of kindness” post

The identity of a rail replacement bus driver praised by ABC journalist Annabel Crabb for a small act of kindness has now been revealed, after transport operators tracked down the “moustachioed driver of rail replacement bus 9026”.

Crabb had shared an emotional note describing how the driver waited a few extra seconds at a stop, allowing her to make her connection.

“I do not know your name, moustachioed driver of rail replacement bus 9026, and I guess I never will. But for what it’s worth, your decision to linger five seconds at the stop when you saw me come galloping round the corner, when you really did not need to, made the world seem noticeably more human today,” she wrote.

The ABC journalist said the brief gesture made a meaningful difference not only to her, but also to fellow passengers who acknowledged the moment with what she described as a shared “been there” smile.

Following the post, the driver’s identity was confirmed by Transit Systems, which introduced him as Rahul, one of the operators working on Sydney’s Southwest Link.

Transport officials said Rahul’s actions were a simple example of everyday customer service, noting that he did not consider the moment extraordinary, but rather part of helping passengers during their journeys.

“For Rahul, it wasn’t anything extraordinary, just helping a passenger,” Transit Systems said, adding that such acts of patience and consideration help keep the city moving smoothly.

The company thanked Rahul and other Southwest Link drivers for their ongoing work, particularly during service disruptions and network changes, where rail replacement services are in operation.

It has also encouraged Crabb to meet the driver in person, now that his identity is known, to pass on her thanks directly.
