An Indian-origin family in Western Australia has turned a charity lottery win into a multimillion-dollar windfall after selling their luxury beachfront prize home in Marmion for $4.899 million.
Sanju and Sweety, who live in the Perth suburb of Success with their three children, originally won the MSWA Lottery Home in May last year, along with $100,000 in cash, taking their total initial prize to $4.25 million.
But the couple has now added a further $649,000 to their winnings after deciding not to move into the property and selling it last month.
As per Perth Now, their total gain now sits at just over $5 million.
The pair, originally from India, said they initially believed the winning phone call from MSWA was a prank. Sanju, a mechanical engineer who moved to Australia in 2019, said he had been buying tickets since 2020 as a way of contributing to charity.
“I came to Australia in 2019. From 2020 I was buying these tickets… more of a way to give back to society in some small way.”
Sweety, a nurse educator, only accepted the result after checking the official draw details online.
The prize home is a four-bedroom, four-bathroom beachfront residence with sweeping ocean views towards Rottnest Island and Hillarys. The property features a double-storey design connected by a lift, oversized windows, high ceilings and premium finishes.
Outside, a wraparound beachfront pool and entertainer’s deck overlook the ocean, offering uninterrupted sunset views — a luxury finish to a win that has continued to deliver long after the draw.
