An Indian-origin family of four is facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives after a devastating house fire destroyed their home in Walkley Heights, Adelaide.

Ankur Jandial, his wife Nancy and their two children were thankfully able to escape the fire that engulfed their home on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

Dozens of firefighters responded to the blaze and worked to bring it under control, preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties.

While the family is safe, their home has been destroyed and will need to be demolished and rebuilt. Many of their personal belongings were also lost in the fire.

A GoFundMe campaign has now been launched by Ankur’s friends and colleagues to provide immediate assistance while the family navigates the insurance and rebuilding process.

The family is insured, but the campaign organisers said insurance assessments, demolition and reconstruction could take considerable time.

The funds raised will help cover immediate expenses including temporary accommodation, clothing, household essentials, meals and other day-to-day costs.

“Ankur, his wife Nancy, and their two children are thankfully safe, but their home was destroyed by the fire and will need to be demolished and rebuilt,” the fundraising appeal states.

“Anyone who knows Ankur knows the kind of person he is. He is generous, hardworking and always willing to help others. He brings warmth and positivity to those around him and is a valued colleague and trusted friend.”

The appeal said the family was now facing both the practical and emotional challenges of starting again after the fire.

“We are hoping to give something back to Ankur and his family during this incredibly difficult time,” the organisers said.

“Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference.”

The organisers have also urged those unable to donate to share the fundraiser with their friends, family and wider community.

The family’s immediate priority is finding stability while their insurance claim is assessed and longer-term plans for rebuilding their home are put in place.
