Delhi Police have launched an investigation after a businessman alleged that his wife took their two-year-old son to Australia without his consent and forged his signature on visa-related documents.
According to The Times of India, Damanjeet Singh, a resident of Greater Noida, alleged that his wife left for her parental home in Tilak Nagar, west Delhi, on 8 June with their son, saying they would return within a few days.
He claimed she subsequently extended her stay, stopped responding to him and eventually blocked his phone number and social media accounts.
When Singh visited her home, he reportedly discovered that tenants were living there. He alleged that his wife, her father and their son had travelled to Australia.
Singh further alleged that his passport had been stolen and his signature forged on documents connected with the child’s Australian visa application.
“She snatched my right as a father, and I yearn for my child,” he said in his complaint, according to the report.
As per the TOI report, an FIR has been registered under provisions of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to forgery, kidnapping and the forgery and use of documents or electronic records as genuine.
The allegations have not been proven in court. The ToI report did not include a response from the wife.
