An Indian-origin Uber Eats driver says she no longer feels safe on the job after her car was allegedly stolen in a carjacking during a food pickup in Perth’s south.

Reena Walia, 54, was collecting an order from a Chinese restaurant on Waratah Boulevard in Canning Vale just after 6.30pm on Wednesday when police say a stranger approached and threatened her. Walia said the experience had left her shaken. “I feel maybe next time when I do Uber Eats it’s going to be horrifying,” she said. “I don’t feel safe.”

Walia said she threw her keys in a panic, screamed “help, help” and ran back into the restaurant to raise the alarm as her BMW 3 Series sedan was driven away.

“Terrifying. Nothing like this kind of (alleged) robbery has taken place with me (before),” she told 7NEWS.

Police allege the driver ignored directions to stop and accelerated away, before crashing about 25 kilometres away near the intersection of Roe Highway and Great Eastern Highway Bypass in Hazelmere.

“The driver fled the scene on foot. He was located a short time later by police hiding in bushland and was taken into custody,” WA Police said.

A 32-year-old Jandakot man has been charged with robbery, stealing a motor vehicle, drug possession, reckless driving to escape pursuit and failing to stop for police. He appeared in Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday, where bail was not considered.
