A new film starring Hollywood legend Daniel Kaluuya has put Victoria’s screen industry in the spotlight, as the Allan Labor Government announces a $27 million boost to attract more major productions and support local jobs.
The A24 project, Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel, has just wrapped filming at Docklands Studios Melbourne, employing more than 270 Victorians and engaging over 250 local businesses — highlighting the economic impact of high-profile productions choosing the state.
The new funding, part of the Victorian Budget 2026–27, will support the Victorian Screen Incentive, bringing total investment in the program to $48.7 million to secure further local and international productions.
Minister for Creative Industries Vicki Ward said the investment would help ensure continued growth and opportunity. “Every production means more jobs for Victorians,” she said.
“We’re backing our creative industries so local talent can build careers here and take Victorian stories to the world.”
In 2024–25, government backing of the screen sector generated more than $500 million in direct economic activity, supporting around 8,000 jobs and 72 productions across Victoria.
The industry spans film, television, visual effects, post-production and digital games, supported by a strong network of local creators, crew and infrastructure.
