Dr Ram Mohan has been named Volunteer of the Year at the 2026 Multicultural Queensland Awards, recognising more than 15 years of community service, mentorship and leadership across Queensland’s multicultural communities.

Mohan has supported communities through times of crisis, strengthened participation in civic, cultural and sporting life, and was previously recognised with a Community Champion Award for mobilising communities during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026.

Alongside his career spanning academia, business, media and public service, he has established news organisations and a podcast studio and delivered major multicultural events, including the Cultural Fashion Showcase.

Tej Man Monger was highly commended in the Volunteer of the Year category for his work supporting refugee families, vulnerable young people, isolated elders and new arrivals in Far North Queensland.

Ashish Katta was highly commended as Entrepreneur of the Year. The Queensland entrepreneur and investor helped grow iCollege into the ASX-listed NextEd Group and has created education and employment pathways for thousands of multicultural students.

The 2026 Multicultural Queensland Awards were presented at the Logan Entertainment Centre on 28 August during Multicultural Queensland Month, celebrating individuals making a lasting contribution to Queensland’s diverse communities.
