The Canberra cricket community is mourning the passing of Rama Garimella, a long-time umpire and former player remembered for his passion for cricket, friendly nature and camaraderie on the field.

Last Man Stands Canberra (LMSCBR) announced his passing, paying tribute to a familiar and much-loved presence at local cricket grounds.

“Rama was a long-time LMSCBR umpire and always such a genuine and friendly presence around the fields,” the organisation said.

“He was passionate about the game of cricket and enjoyed having a laugh with teams and sharing in celebrations of wickets, catches and runs. He will be missed.”

The tribute reflected Garimella’s contribution to the local cricket community, where his enthusiasm for the game and warm interactions with players helped make him a respected figure.

His passing has prompted sadness among those who knew him through cricket, with the community remembering not only his service as an umpire but also the friendships and shared moments he brought to the game.
