Australia and India have held the 13th round of their Army-to-Army Staff Talks in New Delhi, with the three-day dialogue focused on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and expanding engagement between the two armies.

The talks were held from September 28 to 30 and brought together Indian and Australian military officials to discuss cooperation across areas of shared interest.

The Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) said the talks reaffirmed the strong partnership and mutual trust between the two armies.

The discussions focused on further strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and expanding the scope and scale of engagement, according to the ADGPI.

As part of the visit, the Australian delegation also visited the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) in New Delhi, where the officers held discussions on contemporary security issues.

The delegation also paid homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.

The Army talks are part of a broader programme of defence engagement between India and Australia, which includes military exercises, training exchanges and senior-level visits.

India and Australia have also agreed to expand Indian participation in Exercise Talisman Sabre in 2027, while the first India-Australia joint staff talks, involving the three services, are scheduled for later in 2026.

The latest Army Staff Talks add another layer to the expanding defence relationship between India and Australia, with both countries continuing to increase military-to-military engagement and cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.
