Sydney-based community volunteer Noshir Irani has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List for service to the community.

The announcement forms part of the national Honours List recognising 948 Australians across the Order of Australia (General and Military Divisions), meritorious awards and conspicuous service.

“As Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, I am delighted to announce and congratulate the remarkable Australians receiving honours in The 2026 King’s Birthday list,” said Sam Mostyn.

“Our honours system recognises outstanding people who contribute so much to Australia. In our communities, in workplaces and across the country, recipients have made an exceptional contribution to Australia.”

Mr Irani, who migrated to Australia in 1979, has been recognised for long-standing service to community organisations across New South Wales, particularly through volunteer work, civic engagement and multicultural support initiatives.

He has served for many years as a Justice of the Peace and has volunteered with community meal programs supporting vulnerable residents.

His service also includes leadership roles within cultural and community organisations, including the Indo-Australian Cultural Society and the Australian Zoroastrian Association of New South Wales, where he has held presidential and trustee positions.

Mr Irani has contributed to local community governance through roles with neighbourhood centres and advisory bodies, including board membership with the Ku-ring-gai Neighbourhood Centre.

He has also been involved in initiatives supporting multicultural engagement, volunteer coordination and community development programs over several decades.

The King’s Birthday Honours List this year includes 702 recipients in the General Division of the Order of Australia, along with 34 military awards, 149 meritorious awards and 63 conspicuous service awards.

Recipients will attend investiture ceremonies at Government House in their respective states and territories in the coming months.
