An Indian-origin massage therapist who sexually abused more than 60 female clients at a Glenelg business in Adelaide has been jailed for at least a decade after what a judge described as “regular and prolific” offending over several months.
Sumit Satish Rastogi was sentenced to 13 years and 10 months’ imprisonment with a non-parole period of 10 years and 10 months, and is expected to face deportation upon his release.
It is reported that the court heard Rastogi, who worked at a Glenelg massage parlour despite having no formal qualifications, pleaded guilty to 97 offences, including 55 counts of indecent filming and 42 counts of aggravated indecent assault.
His offending occurred between October 2021 and July 2022 at the 4ever Massage clinic, where he targeted unsuspecting female clients during appointments.
It is further reported that during sentencing in the District Court of South Australia, Judge Carmen Matteo said Rastogi had violated women who were “trusting, unsuspecting and entitled to safety, respect and dignity”.
“You abused their trust and treated them with an utter lack of respect and dignity,” she said, adding that his behaviour escalated over time and became increasingly brazen.
The court was told Rastogi later blamed his actions on a voyeuristic disorder and marital issues. However, the judge said while his diagnosis was considered, it did not excuse his conduct and there was no indication he could not control his behaviour or understand its wrongfulness.
Victim impact statements described him as a “predator” and a “creep”, with several women saying they initially felt uncomfortable but did not immediately report what had happened.
