A 60-year-old southern Sydney man has been refused bail after allegedly creating a website containing antisemitic material, prohibited Nazi symbols and extremist violence.
The man appeared before the NSW Bail Division Court on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, after an investigation by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) began in July following intelligence about a website allegedly displaying antisemitic content.
According to the AFP, the website contained several online articles featuring prohibited Nazi symbols and antisemitic material, as well as a video depicting extremist violence.
Investigators allegedly linked the 60-year-old man to the creation of the website.
AFP National Security Investigations (NSI) officers, together with members of the NSW Police Force, executed a search warrant at a property in Jannali, in Sydney’s south, on Tuesday.
Following an examination of electronic devices, the man was charged with two offences under the Commonwealth Criminal Code.
He was charged with publicly displaying prohibited hate symbols, contrary to section 80.2H of the Criminal Code, and publishing violent extremist material using a carriage service, contrary to section 474.45B(1).
Both offences carry a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.
NSW Police also served the man with a Weapons Prohibition Order and a Firearms Prohibition Order.
The man was formally refused bail when he appeared before the NSW Bail Division Court and is due to next appear at Downing Centre Local Court on 26 August 2026.
The AFP said its National Security Investigations teams were established in October 2025 to target groups and individuals considered to be causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including through targeting of the Jewish community.
