In the last four years, Australians have reported more than $4.45 billion in losses from cyber-enabled fraud. In 2024 alone, Australians lost $945 million to investment scams.
The deception was sophisticated, with scammers steering conversations away from dating apps to encrypted messaging platforms—making it harder for them to be reported and removed.
The crash killed 42-year-old mother Nancy Lefrançois and her 11-year-old son Loïc Chevalier, who were travelling in a passenger vehicle struck in the collision.
