Speaking at the Australia India Business Council (AIBC) Business Round Table and Diwali Dinner, Mr Gadkari said "We want to make mass traffic transport on electric, there is a huge potential in India for new technology, innovation, new research and investment".
The crash killed 42-year-old mother Nancy Lefrançois and her 11-year-old son Loïc Chevalier, who were travelling in a passenger vehicle struck in the collision.
