Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that his country would bring home all hostages held in Gaza, “With God’s help, we will bring them all home.”
"It’s almost as if they want an excuse to keep banging their drums, waving their flags, and swinging their crowbars — all the while crying havoc and unleashing the dogs of war.”
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, in a statement marking the anniversary, said the day remained one of “pain and terror for Jewish people around the world” and urged Australians to “never forget the atrocities inflicted by Hamas.”
Bipin Joshi, a 23-year-old agricultural student from Nepal, was abducted by Hamas gunmen from Kibbutz Alumim during the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
“Australia is calling for a ceasefire. For the immediate release of the hostages. For aid to flow to those in desperate need. And for the terrorists of Hamas to have no role in Gaza’s future. And this week, Australia recognised the State of Palestine.”
The move, praised by some Middle East observers as a diplomatic breakthrough, has drawn sharp condemnation from Israel, the United States, and Australia’s conservative opposition.
Australia’s recognition was coordinated with the United Kingdom and Canada. It comes amid ongoing conflict in Gaza, triggered by the brutal Hamas-led terrorist attacks of October 2023.
The crash killed 42-year-old mother Nancy Lefrançois and her 11-year-old son Loïc Chevalier, who were travelling in a passenger vehicle struck in the collision.
