Harjot Singh, 21, Taranveer Singh, 19, and Dayajeet Singh Billing, 21, have each been charged with one count of discharging a firearm into a place, a serious offence under Canada’s Criminal Code that carries lengthy prison terms.
“To go to a foreign country and ask for assistance in breaking up Canada — there’s an old-fashioned word for that, and that word is treason,” Eby said ahead of a first ministers’ meeting.
The group said on X that the demonstration was intended to highlight what it described as an “ongoing and growing problem on Canadian roadways”, pointing to a series of fatal crashes involving heavy vehicles.
The Crown also outlined the background of Gurkaran Singh, telling the court he arrived in Canada on a student visa less than a month before the killings and was expected to attend college in Dawson Creek, but never enrolled.
Two suspects remain at large: 33-year-old Simran Preet Panesar of Brampton, believed to be in India, for whom a Canada-wide arrest warrant and extradition request have been issued; and 36-year-old Prasath Paramalingam of Brampton, who failed to appear in court in August 2024.
“A local Hindu temple was robbed in broad daylight, with bystanders seemingly frozen, possibly fearing the thieves were armed. Our places of worship must be protected.”

The crash killed 42-year-old mother Nancy Lefrançois and her 11-year-old son Loïc Chevalier, who were travelling in a passenger vehicle struck in the collision.
