Regional Victoria has recorded the strongest employment growth in the country, with thousands of new jobs added last month.
New figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show an additional 5,800 people found work in regional Victoria in November — the highest regional jobs growth of any state during the period.
Despite the surge in employment, the regional unemployment rate remained steady at 3.4 per cent, the lowest in Australia. The latest data lifts total regional employment in Victoria to 822,000 jobs, while overall employment across the state has reached a record 3.83 million.
Treasurer Jaclyn Symes said the figures highlight the strength of regional economies and the government’s long-term focus on jobs and growth.
“Regional Victoria is booming — with more people in work and the economy strong,” she said, pointing to sustained investment in housing, health and transport as key drivers of confidence. By building the homes young Victorians need, delivering world-class healthcare and expanding transport infrastructure, she said the state was being positioned “for a strong future”.
Victoria’s broader economic indicators also remain robust. The state’s population grew by 1.8 per cent to 7.07 million in the year to June — the fastest population growth of any Australian state — as more people choose to live and work in Victoria.
Over the past decade, Victoria’s economy has outperformed all other states. State final demand, a key measure combining public and private investment and spending, rose by 2.2 per cent in the year to September 2025.
While acknowledging ongoing cost-of-living pressures on households, the government said it was balancing targeted support for families with continued investment in essential frontline services, including regional hospitals, schools, roads and rail, to ensure economic growth translates into lasting opportunities across regional communities.
