Australian citizen’s email to Fiji PM sparks political scrutiny as NFP flags potential conspiracy

NFP General Secretary Kamal Iyer said Alexandra Forwood emailed Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, claiming that NFP leader Prof. Biman Prasad was blaming the PM for forcing his removal from Cabinet.

Fiji’s National Federation Party (NFP) has accused Australian citizen Alexandra Forwood of allegedly attempting a political conspiracy aimed at destabilising Fiji’s coalition government.

In a statement released on social media, NFP General Secretary Kamal Iyer said Forwood emailed Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, claiming that NFP leader Prof. Biman Prasad was blaming the PM for forcing his removal from Cabinet. The PM, as a matter of courtesy, forwarded the email to Professor Prasad and the party.

“The email is clearly part of a greater conspiracy involving certain individuals both in Fiji and abroad, raising questions about the independence of FICAC,” the NFP said.

The statement also alleged that Prof. Prasad had contacted former NFP President Tupou Draunidalo in 2016, apologising for warnings about Mr Rabuka — a claim the party says is being misrepresented.

Forwood’s email was described by the NFP as “malicious, full of lies and filth.” The party claims the Australian citizen had access to sensitive information about FICAC proceedings, including Prof. Prasad’s summons to appear in court.

Earlier, the High Court of Fiji confirmed it had received a complaint regarding Forwood’s ongoing “unprofessional and indecent conduct” toward the judiciary.

Despite the case being dismissed for lack of merit, the court said Forwood continued to send inappropriate emails and make public posts considered disrespectful to the judicial institution.

In response to the NFP statement, Forwood defended her actions on social media, saying the email was “confidential and private” and that she was “doing my civil duty.”

She added that FICAC, which laid charges against Prof. Prasad, operates independently and she cannot comment further as the matter is subjudice.

The controversy has raised concerns about the involvement of individuals abroad in Fiji’s political affairs, with the NFP calling the incident a “heinous plot to derail the coalition government.”
