The Gold Coast Hindu Cultural Association will establish a new community precinct in Arundel after securing a $500,000 Multicultural Connect grant from the Queensland Government.

The funding marks a significant milestone for the association, which has been working towards developing a dedicated community space for more than a decade.

Queensland’s Minister for Housing and Public Works, Sam O’Connor, said the project would deliver a long-awaited home for the local Hindu community.

“We’re helping the Gold Coast Hindu Cultural Association deliver a community precinct in Arundel,” Mr O’Connor said.

“This has been a dream of theirs for more than a decade and thanks to a $500,000 Multicultural Connect grant, it’s going to be a reality.”

He said the Gold Coast’s Hindu community would benefit from a purpose-built space designed to support cultural, social and community activities.

“The Gold Coast has a proud Hindu community and this will finally give them a space to call their own.”

The funding will support the construction of an events space, kitchen, dining area and office facilities within the precinct.

Last year, Minister for Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson said the program was designed to strengthen community cohesion while supporting Queensland’s cultural diversity.

She said the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland grants program had attracted strong demand, with funding allocated across a wide range of cultural groups and community initiatives.

“Our multicultural communities suffered during a decade of decline under Labor, but I’m proud to be part of the Crisafulli Government which believes in building stronger communities and delivers on this commitment.”

The Multicultural Connect Grants Program provides one-off matched funding of up to $500,000 for community organisations to build or upgrade infrastructure that supports cultural groups across Queensland.

The program is part of a broader state initiative aimed at supporting multicultural events, participation and community engagement.
