A man charged with allegedly indecently assaulting a student at an Adelaide Hills school had passed all required police checks before working on school grounds, according to his employer.
As per 7News, the 30-year-old man, who was employed as an external contractor to service sanitary bins at public schools, is accused of indecently assaulting a student on school grounds on April 27.
His employer said the man had worked for the company for two years and had undergone the necessary screening and police clearances before being allowed to attend school sites. The company is contracted to provide cleaning and sanitary services at public schools across South Australia.
Parents at several schools received letters informing them that “an external contractor that attended our site has been arrested” and stressing that “the individual was an external service provider and did not work with children.”
The man was in Australia on a working visa and had attended multiple sites as part of his role.
Community members have questioned whether current screening processes for contractors attending schools are sufficient.
The contractor has since been stood down by the company and remains on police bail. He is due to face court in July.
