Ilhan Omar not a millionaire? new disclosure slashes reported assets to under $100k

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar has said she is not a millionaire after a corrected financial disclosure dramatically reduced her reported assets from as high as $30 million to under $100,000.

An amended filing reviewed by The Wall Street Journal shows Omar and her husband’s assets are now estimated between $18,004 and $95,000. The earlier disclosure had listed their holdings between $6 million and $30 million.

A spokesperson for Omar said the discrepancy was due to an accounting error and was corrected once identified, stating the congresswoman is not a millionaire.

The revision came after the Office of Congressional Conduct requested additional information earlier this year. Omar’s lawyer said the incorrect figures were unintentional and resulted from reliance on accountants.

The updated filing also shows the couple reported between $102,503 and $1,005,200 in income in 2024, and lists student loan and credit card debts ranging between $15,001 and $50,000 each.

The discrepancy had drawn scrutiny from Republicans, including James Comer, who questioned how such a large swing in reported assets occurred.

Omar’s office pushed back on the criticism, describing it as politically motivated.
