Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called on Australians to come together in unity, compassion and hope this Christmas, following the tragic terror attack on Jewish Australians celebrating Chanukah at Bondi Beach.
“Wherever you are across our wonderful country, Christmas will feel different this year,” Albanese said.
“After the terror inflicted on Jewish Australians celebrating Chanukah at Bondi Beach, we feel the weight of sorrow in our hearts.”
He acknowledged the lives lost and the lasting impact on survivors, while praising the extraordinary courage displayed by those who confronted danger.
“A powerful reminder that in the worst of times we see the very best of the Australian character.”
The Prime Minister highlighted Christmas as a time to celebrate faith, gratitude and service. He thanked emergency personnel, medical workers, hospitality and charity workers, volunteers, and Defence Force personnel who dedicate their time and energy to others.
“To each and every Australian, I wish you a Christmas of peace, safety and love,” Albanese said.
“A Christmas where we stand together, united. A Christmas of healing and one of hope.”
